During the first days of covid, I was compelled to go out into the New York City streets, and photograph Manhattan’s emptiness, except for the stray homeless scattered about, and the city’s deafening silence, except for the anxiety causing ambulance sirens. Then, homebound, I wrote a poem filled with my impressions and through this creative process, I not only survived, but thrived in the solitude of my inner explorations.
Begonya Plaza is an accomplished New York theatre, television, and film actor/singer, she is a published author, and filmmaker as well. Her full-length play Teresa’s Ecstasy premiered Off-Broadway at Cherry Lane Theatre, and published by Broadway Play Publishing Inc., Also is in The Best Women’s Stage Monologues of 2013. Her poems are included in various publications and anthologies. The recording of her short story Dalí Esque-Apades is based on her original screenplay about Salvador Dalí, and is narrated by Phillip Giambri, available on YouTube. Quantum’s Big Picture is her latest work in progress.
