The Cover – Shahrad Shahvareh – Iran

I wish I could take off my naked skin like a changeable garb. This is the most foreigner dress I’ve ever been stuck in it since I’ve born.
This short film illustrates just a small part of a transgender’s feelings about his body, from a different point of view.


Shahrad Shahvareh was born On August 17, 1998 in IranHe revealed his identity as a trans man two years ago.At the age of 15, he began his education in the field of Cinema in Zeinabiyeh Conservatory in Rasht, and after that, in 2019 he graduated the Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Cinema-Filmmaking in Guilan University of Applied Science and Technology (UAST), Rasht, Guilan.He was selected for the 11th International 100-Seconds Film Festival in Iran at the age of 17 before revealing his identity as a transgender. After that due to discrimination against He’s different gender identity in Iran, he was banned from attending domestic festivals and artistic activities.In 2019, he made a short self-portrait film called F to M, which depicts the struggles and days full of tension, harm and discrimination of society towards him as a transgender. The film aired on the UK’s Mafa shortfilm TV Then, in the same year, it selected in the International TQU short film nights Festival in Germany and was screened as one of the festival’s top 12 films at the Whose Museum in Malmo, Sweden.Shahrad continues his Artistic activity after going through many hardships and despite the lack of financial support and discrimination in the society.he’s latest short film,”The Cover”, was officially selected by the International Moving-Image-Arts Festival in 2020 and screened at Ryerson University-School of Image Arts in Toronto,Canada.
