Elegy – Jonathan Lipkin – James Hoch – USA

Elegy is a collaboration between poet James Hoch, photographer Jonathan Lipkin, and musician Chad Kinsey. It is a single track video that sets the poem, an elegy for a friend, in relation to ocean and ice landscapes. The resultant piece is focused on motion and feeling as recursive and discursive as it figures into notions of return and dissolution.

Jonathan Lipkin is a visual artist whose work is a meditation on the infinite, time, and perception. He holds degrees from Wesleyan University and the School of Visual Arts and maintains studios in New York City and East Hampton. His photographs have been exhibited and published internationally and are held in public and private collections. He is author of Photography Reborn (Abrams Books, 2004) and In the Realm of the Circuit (Prentice Hall, 2003). His artist’s book Livingston County (Conveyor Books, 2011) was selected for inclusion in the IndyBooks Library. He has lectured extensively on photography and digital media.
